Are tree crops the future of WA’s Wheatbelt?

In Shot Productions Kristen Farlekas shooting at a new brushwood plantation

Covering an area larger than Tasmania, late last year we ventured into the far corners of the Western Australian whealtbelt, to film how WA farmers are benefiting from tree crops.

Produced for the Australian Sandalwood Network, the first video is a short documentary on Sandalwood production and its deep history in Western Australia’s wheatbelt.

Did you know? Sandalwood was once Western Australia’s biggest export commodity, also Sandalwood oil is a ingredient in some of the world’s favorite perfumes including “Obsession” by Calvin Klein and “Opium” by Yves St Laurent. Sandalwood – “The Golden Harvest” can be viewed here.

The second video is a series of Interviews of Farmers sharing their stories on the benefits of treecrops which was produced for Avongro Wheatbelt tree cropping. “Greener Horizons – 5 Western Australian farmers share their experience with tree crops. ” can be viewed here.

Thank you to all the families who put us up for the night during our travels through the wheat belt and for you assistance and contribution to the shoot.
